MindBloom Preschool

MindBloom Preschool is a distinguishable and very affordable language immersion and STEM/STEAM preschool (and now added Kindergarten program) in Washington, DC that invites families in DC, Maryland, and Virginia to a choice of either Mandarin Chinese or Spanish language curriculum for their children ages 2-6 years.  We also offer a science-based and hands-on arts curriculum every day that teaches a myriad of age-appropriate scientific topics over a span of several weeks to support understanding.

A great number of parents are unaware that Kindergarten is an optional component of the educational system in the United States.  However, our Kindergarten program provides a wealth of opportunities for children who might either ordinarily not be admitted to a public/private school at the Kindergarten level, due to a late birthday or other situation where parents are unable to enroll their Kindergarten-age child in a school at the usual time in the Fall.

For Kindergarten, MindBloom Preschool uses the Core Knowledge curriculum, which exceeds state educational standards, and was created to close the opportunity gap.

Kindergarten at MindBloom is very distinguishable from a traditional Kindergarten program and welcomes children 4-6 years or age.  The classes are much smaller, so that there is ample time for more individualized attention and the classes may be taught in a choice of English or either of the target languages.  Also, our high-quality Kindergarten program is shown to produce children who can read and do math at least 2-3 grade levels ahead.

The next Kindergarten session will open the first Monday of the last week in August 2016 and end the last Friday in June 2017.

The Kindergarten subjects taught at MindBloom Preschool are:

  • Phonics (30 minutes a day)
  • Reading (30 minutes a day)
  • Math (30 minutes a day)
  • Science (30 minutes a day)
  • History/Social Studies (30 minutes a day)
  • World Geography (30 minutes a day)
  • Music (Music and Movement and additional Piano lesson, each 30 minutes a day)

Like the above symbol suggests, our program is a "marriage" of differing factors and teaches school readiness and an appreciation for a classical curriculum that includes piano and music with a global influence.  We also occasionally offer older children and adults an opportunity to learn Mandarin or Spanish in our evening and Saturday programs.  We are located in the large brick building with the glass doors at 2420 Rhode Island Avenue, NE in Washington, DC.

What is language immersion at MindBloom Preschool?

In our program, language immersion is a method of teaching language, usually a second target language, in which the target language is used in all aspects of teaching the curriculum and in the mode of instruction.  Here at MindBloom Preschool, our focus is EARLY immersion and our children receive all of their core subjects in a target language of choice, with that language being spoken between 80 and 90 percent of the school day.  Our preschool program model is designed to teach a classical curriculum that acknowledges cultural world differences and an appreciation for people, education, and natural talents and abilities that will enhance a child’s opportunities throughout their lifetime.

What are the benefits of my child learning a foreign language at MindBloom Preschool?

Our goal is that the education of each child in our program will be enriched by achieving competency in a second language at an age when achieving such competency is easiest.  All of our classes are taught in small group settings to maximize learning impact.  Our teachers are kind-hearted, experienced, college-educated, and native speakers of the target languages we offer and have excellent proficiency in both verbal and written English.

Our learning environments are spacious and richly adorned with interesting stimuli that are meaningful and awe-inspiring for the inquisitive minds and development of our young pupils.  We take great pride in offering our children a thoughtful range of authentic native goods similar to the real life tools they encounter on a daily basis.  What better way to learn about multiculturalism and languages, than to be surrounded by true to life, tangible things that are genuine representations from other cultures?

The very nature of our program also encourages us to teach our children the importance of tolerance, empathy, and conflict resolution to be diplomatic and honorable in learning to succeed both as individuals and contributing members of society.

Other Key Benefits of a MindBloom Preschool Education:

Play-Based Opportunities for Our Emerging Leaders :)

MindBloom Preschool encourages the promotion of positive interactions amongst all of our children through cooperative learning.  Play is the best way for children to develop these interactions, while shaping their whole selves.  Part of our school day will encourage different kinds of play with fun activities to help our kids feel good about learning and working positively with others.

Piano Instruction

Did you know that there is a relationship between music and performing well in school?  Studies show that when children develop musical ability early on, they pay more attention in class and are quickly able to build competency in the areas of math and science.

Piano introduction is included in the monthly tuition for all full-time enrolled students.
